That is where the question of eBike hire versus car hire becomes more interesting than simply comparing two ways to get around.

Both can make a holiday better. The right choice depends on where you are staying, who is travelling with you, how far you want to roam and whether you want to experience the coast through a windscreen or at its natural pace.

eBike hire versus car hire: start with your plans

A car is the stronger option for full-day trips into the mountains, airport transfers with plenty of luggage, or exploring several towns in one day. If your plan includes Guadalest, the waterfalls at Fonts de l’Algar, a winery in the inland valleys and dinner back on the coast, a car gives you range and shelter from the midday heat.

An eBike is usually the better choice when the journey itself is part of the holiday. It suits couples, solo travellers and families with confident older children who want to explore locally without the practical frustrations of driving. The electric assistance makes the climbs far more manageable, including the streets leading up to Altea old town or the rolling coastal roads around Albir.

For many visitors, the best answer is not one or the other for the whole stay. Hire a car for one or two bigger adventures, then spend another day on an eBike exploring the coast close to your hotel or flat.

Where an eBike makes the Costa Blanca more memorable

A car also opens up parts of Alicante Province that are not realistic for a relaxed eBike day. Guadalest is about an hour’s drive from Benidorm, depending on traffic, and the mountain roads are beautiful but demanding. The drive through Callosa d’en Sarrià to Fonts de l’Algar is another worthwhile outing, especially in spring or autumn when the inland landscape is at its greenest.

Wine lovers may prefer a car for visiting the vineyards of the Marina Alta and Alicante’s inland wine country. Just remember that Spanish drink-driving limits are strict. If a tasting is central to the day, agree on a designated driver, arrange transport, or choose a guided experience so everyone can enjoy it properly.

A car is useful in winter too. Costa Blanca winters are generally mild, but a windy or rainy day can make cycling less appealing. With a car, you can still visit a market, a mountain village or a craft brewery without watching the weather all morning.
